Directed by Silvana Bareggi since the 1980s, the gallery has broadened its areas of interest beyond drawings to include Old and Modern Master Prints and small-format paintings.
Silvana Bareggi’s great passion – derived in part from her study of art history and her thesis on the drawings and prints by the Procaccini family – prompts her to organize a yearly exhibition that is accompanied by an illustrated catalogue. The catalogues contain scholarly entries with contributions by Italian and foreign scholars, and provide exhaustive and up-to-date bibliographic references.
Stanza del Borgo specializes in works by the principal Old and Modern Masters, among them: Dürer, Schongauer, Rembrandt, the Tiepolo family, Goya, Piranesi, Fattori, Pissarro, Whistler, Signorini, Picasso, Chagall, Gauguin, and Morandi.
Beginning in 2010, the gallery started to offer woodblock prints and drawings by major Japanese artists. The Ukiyo-e Masters, ranging in date from the 17th to the 20th century, include works by Harunobu, Koryusai, Hiroshige, Hokusai, Utamaro, Kunisada and many other artists. The gallery’s interests extend also to Shin Hanga prints. In addition, important Surimono and Shunga collections have been assembled over the years.
The Stanza del Borgo has exhibited at the most renowned prints and drawings fairs, among them: New York’s IFPDA Print Fair; Milan’s Internazionale dell’Antiquariato; Florence’s Carta Antica at Palazzo Corsini, and Milan’s Mostra del Libro Antico.
The gallery is a member of the International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA) in New York; CINOA; ALAI (the Italian association of antique book dealers), and the Society for Japanese Arts.
