Provenance: on the verso two blue, oval stamped marks of the Cabinet des Estampes du Musée Grand-Ducal di Schwerin (Mecklembourg), Lugt 9225 (Museum’s mark), Lugt 7103 (mark for the duplicates).
Fine impression of the New Hollstein’s only state, printing with horizontal light wiping marks in the sky and a delicate plate tone, mainly at upper left; with good margins (5 to 120 mm). In very good condition and with the background landscape on the right printing very clear.
Hinterding and Rutgers anticipate the dating of this etching from 1645 to 1641, the period in which the artist creates his most important and significant landscapes: Landscape with a Cottage and a Large Tree (1641) New Hollstein no. 198; Landscape with Cottage and a Haybarn: oblong (1641), New Hollstein no. 199; the Windmill (1641), New Hollstein no. 200; The Three Trees (1643), New Hollstein no. 214.
